The Joint Inter-Parliamentary Meetings are inserted within the European objective of deepening inter-parliamentary cooperation and seek to express the Hague Directives. Over the last years, a model of meetings has been developed, jointly organised and co-presided by the Parliament of the Member-state holding the Presidency and by the European Parliament, held at the European Parliament in Brussels.
Consequently, it is the responsibility of the AR, during the semester of the Portuguese Presidency, to jointly organise four meetings of this nature: two of a more general scope and two at a Committee level (Meetings of the Committees of the National Parliaments and the European Parliament).
During these meetings the definition of the subjects, dates, as well as the joint preparation of a programme and choice of guest speakers are jointly carried out with the European Parliament.
